Development / LA Fitness

In 2018, the issue of putting an LA Fitness behind the Sprouts grocery store was brought before the council.

During the public hearing, LA Fitness said they were pulling out of the project regardless of the outcome before the City Council voted on anything.

Also, the owners of the Shops at Rossmoor stated they would not allow any resident parking as part of the project.

Due to the impact on the condominiums on Montecito, the City Council voted 3-2 against the project (which LA Fitness decided to pull out of before the vote). Besides not knowing what health club would go there and whether it would fit within the project terms, the traffic impacts at the mall would negatively impact the already heavy traffic from the In-N-Out burger and current stores. Also, the terms of the proposed project which would be for a future Gym at this property would open at 4:30a.m. and close at 11:00p.m. and would be within 100 feet of a large amount of residences. When I make a decision, I try to put myself in the shoes of someone that would live near the potential project.

I am a big proponent of businesses and have started 2 companies myself, however I can’t support something that would negatively impact the local community and a project where the owners of the Shops at Rossmoor are unwilling to even discuss additional parking options for local residents.
